Collages are like stories told in layers.
Just as people have many facets, many layers to who they are, so too do my collages. Each layer is distinct, each piece unique, and yet they all come together to tell a singular story.
It's a bit like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle, where every piece has its place, its purpose. And just like life, it takes time to complete each layer, to ensure every piece fits just right.
I often use the patterns I've created with alcohol inks in my collages. The textures and designs they form are perfect for this. They bring a depth and a realism to the foliage in my pieces. And as I build these collages, layer by layer, I'm reminded of the complexities and beauties of life.
Each layer, different from the next, yet all coming together to form a cohesive whole. It's a reflection of our journeys, our stories, and the many layers that make us who we are.
The process is intricate. I start with a base layer, then add a layer of resin, which gives this glass-like finish when it dries. I'll then layer on more papers, hand drawings, and more resin, building it up until the final layer.
Every time you look at a piece, you might just spot something new, something that might even whisk you back to a cherished memory.
